For almost two centuries, the name Mattingly has been synonymous with world-class bourbon and innovation. John Graves Mattingly (1823-1910) was responsible for perfecting the now famous column still used by the greatest bourbon producers in the world to provide a more continuous process to satisfy the growing demand of his customers.

At J. Mattingly 1845 we pride ourselves on creating the finest bourbons available. Our master blenders go to great lengths to turn every barrel into a masterpiece. That said, have you ever wanted to tweak the bourbon in the bottle just a little bit? Make it a little sweeter, or spicier? Well, at our distillery we offer a rare opportunity to do just that. We’ve set aside a special area where we’ve brought together a select group of barrels and allow you the opportunity to blend the bourbon to your exact taste. Ready to blend? Blend My Own BourbonWhen making bourbon, you start with a virgin oak barrel – a barrel is made up of many wood staves. Once the barrel is completed, the interior of the barrel is fire charred. And it is in that process where the distillate mingles with the charred oak where the magic happens. But at J. Mattingly 1845, we go one step further. We want the distillate to have even more exposure to the charred oak, so we add extra staves to each barrel to coax just a little more precious flavor out of the “juice.” How many staves do we add? Ah, that’s a trademarked secret. But the results are instantly evident once you take your first sip.
